News & Events
Let's get technical
Reunions 2010, June 1-6, will
celebrate what some might call the artes physicae or the quadrivium—in
current terms, the production of scientific knowledge. While we'll
focus on the sciences, there will still be plenty of food, drink,
music, and dance to keep the humanists happy. Register
online today!
Holiday party
A record number (253!) of alumni, parents, and friends
came together to make merry this festive season at
the annual Reed
Alumni Holiday Party on Saturday, December 12. This year Orin
Zyvan '04 took pictures of all who wanted to pose in front of the
giant gingerbread house; download your own copy from the photo
gallery (please click on the link below each large
photo in the gallery to download a high-resolution copy).
Defining Reed
How do you define Reed? How did it define you? Alumni
gathered to discuss these questions at the centennial-launch events
we held around the country last spring. If you attended any
of the events, this is your chance to review the event you attended
or see what happened in the other cities; if you missed the first
round, check out compilations of the alumni and faculty observations
and add your own thoughts on YouTube.
Centennial cometh
In June 2011, alumni will converge on campus and share their talents in a Centennial
Alumni College as part of our expanded Reunions 2011 celebration. Check out
the plan and submit
your own ideas!
Social media is fun!
Follow a variety of alumni news on Facebook (including
ReediEnews and
Reed magazine), Twitter
(the Doyle Owl has been spotted there too!), and LinkedIn. Look for local
chapter groups on both forums as well.
Reed Stories
Reed Stories is
an online extension of Reed's Oral History project that seeks to
compile recollections of Reed alumni, faculty, and staff to create
a community history for the college's centennial in 2011. Whether
yours is a memorable story of politics or pranks, of your initiation
into Reed’s life of the
mind, or an example of the Honor Principle put to the test, we invite you to
add your anecdotes, or just check out the stories already posted.
Benefits of membership
Reed's
alumni association is
the organization of all Reed alumni. You are eligible to be a member
if you earned at least seven units in a degree-seeking program at Reed.
Whether you live in the Portland area or happen to be visiting, you
may use various campus
facilities when you show an
alumni association ID card. If you live elsewhere, you will receive
news about alumni association events in your area. All alumni receive,
free of charge, the quarterly Reed magazine and
ReediEnews,
our electronic newsletter,
and have access to our online
alumni directory.
Are you interested in giving back though volunteering?
Sports
center refresher
School is in session, and we'd like to share this reminder about alumni
benefits and services on campus, especially regarding the sports
center:
All alumni who use the sports center must present a current alumni
association ID card and sign in at the cage. Alumni ID cards may be
obtained at our office in Greywood, by calling 503/777-7589, or via
email at alumni@reed.edu. When signing in, alumni are requested to
identify the specific area (e.g., weight room, swimming pool, squash
courts) that they intend to use.
During the academic year (when classes are in session), the facility
is reserved for student use only (e.g., alumni not allowed) during
the following peak hours: Monday through Friday, 4-7 p.m. and Saturday,
12-4 p.m. (weight room only).
The sports center is part of the educational institution and our classes
and programs take priority in the facility, thus, alumni are requested
to relinquish the use of any athletic equipment or space should they
be asked. The center is unable to accommodate guests and family members
of alumni.
