Alumni
Benefits & Services

Whether you live in the Portland area or happen to be visiting, you may use the sports center, the library, and the computer labs, and you may set up an email forwarding address. If you live elsewhere, you will receive news about alumni association events in your area. All alumni receive, free of charge, the quarterly Reed magazine and ReediEnews, our electronic newsletter (be sure to send us your current address and email at alumni@reed.edu), and have access to our online alumni directory.
In the school without rules there are nonetheless policies and guidelines devoted to the allocation and use of campus resources. These policies help ensure that students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other members of the Reed community can enjoy Reed's popular facilities and services.
Alumni and the Honor Principle
As Reed alumni, you already know that Reed is governed by the honor principle and you already have ideas about how that affects Reed life. However, you may not have thought about what the honor principle means to alumni in particular and the role that it plays in life after Reed. Read more...
Email forwarding
As alumni of Reed, you are eligible to use our online
alumni directory and/or
set up an email forwarding address within the IRIS portal.
This service allows you to have an "@reed" email
address that will automatically forward email to your preferred account at
your current internet service provider (ISP). When you create
your forwarding address, your friends will always be able to
reach you by email at your name@alumni.reed.edu. IRIS
is
a secure website and can be accessed only by your Reed ID number and a password. You
may also use this site to submit class
notes.
Web conference
The web conference is a virtual community
where Reed alumni hang out and talk about everything from job networking
to the usual bellyaching about the decline of "Olde Reed." If one-on-one
conversation is more your style, use our online
alumni directory to look up classmates.
Career services
All alumni have access to the career services website (using their IRIS password), which includes more than 700 alumni volunteers, job postings, and a lot of valuable job search and grad school information. Alumni who are one to five years out are eligible for the same assessment and counseling services as students.
Eric V. Hauser Memorial Library & Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery
Alumni may visit the library during business hours and check out books upon presentation of an alumni association ID card. Alumni may use electronic resources in the library with a temporary user account (see below). Situated within the library, the gallery is open to the public, free of charge.
Computing facilities
Alumni are entitled to sign up for a temporary user account allowing them to use computer terminals in the library and the Educational Technology Center (ETC) during regular business hours.
To get a temporary user account, visit the CUS help desk in the ETC with photo ID and your alumni association ID card; you will be required to sign a user agreement. Your account will be good for a limited time--currently 180 days--and can be renewed by another visit to the help desk. Printing is not available to alumni and help desk support provides basic help with logging in only.
Short-term medical insurance
Reed has an arrangement with a company called Meyer and Associates to provide short-term medical insurance at a discounted rate to Reedies and their families. Medical insurance is available for those temporarily without coverage, such as the unemployed and recent graduates, and for special situations, including travelers and students.
To investigate specific policies and find out if this form of insurance is right for you, please contact Meyer and Associates directly using the contact information below and simply mention your connection to Reed.
