Summer picnic

Our annual Bay Area alumni chapter picnic returns to Golden Gate Park at noon on Sunday, September 7 (the first weekend after Labor Day).

Find us at the Pioneer Log Cabin picnic area in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, located on John F. Kennedy Drive, one quarter of a mile east of Crossover Drive. NOTE: John F. Kennedy Drive will be closed to motor vehicles east of Crossover Drive. If you drive, park west of Crossover Drive.

We'll gather from noon until whenever. Bring something to grill, and something to share. Wondering what to bring? For inspiration, but by no means a hard and fast rule:

A-H: drinks (alcohol is permitted)
I-O: desserts
P-Z: side dishes and salads

Please drop an email to sfbayreed@gmail.com and let us know what type of food and/or beverages you would like to bring. Drop us an email even if you are not sure. Heck, drop us an email if you think you probably won't come, but we hope you do!

Thirsty Third Thursday... Snooty Second Tuesday!

We've been having great turnout to Thirsty Third Thursday in Berkeley--last time a junior on spring break traded stories with a '58 law veteran. Now, due to popular demand, we're going to experiment with a second event for alumni in The City. These brewpub gatherings are on two different nights, so come to either or both!

Snooty Second Tuesday: July 8

After feedback from San Francisco alumni that Thursday nights don't work, we're going to try giving the city its own day. With a little magical mapping software we've pinpointed the highest density of Reedies in San Francisco—on Guerroro between 19th and 27th. So, to remove excuses, that's where we're meeting this month.

    The Liberties
998 Guerrero Street (at the corner of Guerrero and 22nd)
    San Francisco
    415/282-6789

Thirsty Third Thursday: July 17

Our regular monthly gathering continues at the big corner table upstairs at:

Jupiter Brewing
2181 Shattuck
next to Downtown Berkeley BART

Look for a poster or follow the sound of libertine rhetoric. 6 p.m. until the last Reedie goes home.

Whether you're feeling thirsty or snooty, do please join us! For information or RSVP contact sfbayreed@gmail.com .

News

Reading group

The Reed Peninsula Reading Group is a bunch of alumni who have been meeting monthly for the last ten years or more (no one can actually remember when we started). We meet at the home of a member on the second Wednesday of the month.

Our tastes are eclectic/catholic. We have read A Social History of the Machine Gun as well as having a Kazuo Ishiguro double-header night. We are open to all Reed alumni and their partners.

For more information, please contact Richard Roistacher '65.

Listserves

The Bay Area chapter has recently set up an email listserve to make it possible to arrange short notice get togethers with fellow Reedies. If you want to invite your fellow Reedies to join you for a concert, movie, drink, dinner or a hike, send an email to the list. However, it is an opt-in list, which means the only people who will see the announcements will be people who've gone to a web page to subscribe. This means you need to subscribe yourself so that you can see what other people want to do. There is an option to get all the messages combined in one message once a day or weekly. Subscribe yourself: https://www.lists.reed.edu/mailman/listinfo/alumni-bay-area-network

If you have an idea for an event please contact the Bay Area steering committee. We'd love to hear your ideas.
