Thinking Reed: A Centennial Celebration
We’re bringing the party to you.
Reed's centennial celebration is hitting the road! We've charted a course through all chapter cities, where we'll put on festivities that include a hosted reception, video presentation, and brief remarks from a notable graduate who will discuss how a Reed education influenced his or her achievements (these speakers all penned essays for the new volume, Thinking Reed). Also, we'll toast retiring president, Colin Diver.
In DC we have a very special venue reserved on Thursday, March 15: the Caucus Room, Cannon House Office Building! See details and register online.
Cheese tasting on Super Bowl Sunday
Consistent with our chapter's tradition of hosting an event on Super Bowl Sunday that is not devoted to watching football, local cheese aficionado/expert David Gossett '91 invites alumni to join him for a cheese-tasting party at his home near the U Street metro on Sunday, February 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
David will select a collection of interesting cheeses—many of them very different from what you may be used to eating—and representing a range of hard versus soft, strong versus mild, artisanal versus more widely produced, and American versus European varieties. Some of the cheeses can be found easily (e.g., at Costco); for others you would need to visit cheese specialty shops (David will tell us where). During the evening, after we have begun to indulge, he will tell us about the various cheeses we are eating. There will be wine and other beverages as well.
Attendees are asked to contribute $10 toward the cost of the cheese and wine. Please do RSVP so that David knows how many are coming and can buy the right quantity.
David and his wife Dena live in apartment #1 at 1922 12th St NW, in the first block south of U Street and around the corner from the U-Street/Cardozo metro stop on the green/yellow line.
Hope you can partake in this distinctive tradition!

Facebook + Listserves
The chapter now has a
Facebook page, check us out!
Also, we have an email listserve to arrange get-togethers with fellow
Reedies on short notice. If you want to invite Reedies to join you for
a concert, movie, drink, dinner or a hike, please send an email to the
list. This is an opt-in list, which means the only people who will see
the announcements will be people who have subscribed to the web page.
There is an option to get the messages combined in one message daily
or weekly; please subscribe at https://www.lists.reed.edu/mailman/listinfo/alumni-dc-network
If you have an idea for an event please contact the DC chapter. We'd love to hear your ideas.
