Thirsty Third Thursday, November 19, 2009

November winds whistle with winter's words, even Zephyrus leaves Thrace to carry the birds. So, gather dear Reedies into small herds, and shoot the breeze at the next round of Thirsty Thirds.

RSVP if you can. Hosts really appreciate knowing how many people are coming, so they know how big of a table to save, but if you're not sure, come anyway. If there's not an event near you, but you would like to get one started, send email to alumni@reed.edu.

British Columbia:

  • Vancouver—starts at 6 p.m.

  • It has gotten cold and rainy, so its time to move Thirsty Third Thursday somewhere more comfy than the local bar. We'll be having Thirsty Thursday this month as a potluck at our house. Bring beer or eats—our Christmas home-brew should be ready to share.

  • Portola Valley (Palo Alto)—starts at 6 p.m.

Join fellow south peninsula-area Reedies at a classic location. The Alpine Inn (née Zots) is a relaxed beer and burger joint in Portola Valley, which is easy to get to from I-280. Weather permitting, we meet in the back outside at a table near the fence closest to the parking lot.

Look for the purple stuffed Griffin and/or Reed pennant on the table. We have a few regulars, and a larger number of fascinating Reedies who drop in once or infrequently.

Directions: Take Alpine Road west from I-280 for two miles. Take a left on Arastradero, and an immediate right into the parking lot. There is a clearly marked left turn lane here; it is a unique feature. Proceed very carefully: visibility is poor and bicyclists abound. If you hit Portola Road on the right, you've gone too far.

Keep an eye out for cyclists!

  • Dallas—starts at 8 p.m.

Spill it all on the ground. We will meet in the greater heart of the cultural vacuum known as Dallas-Fort Worth, and instead of whining about it, we shall be the change we wish to see in the Universe. The Gingerman ("Jin-ja-mon," at the intersection of Boll and McKinney Ave.) provides an enlightened spectrum of "brew," an ideal environment for fostering Reedie-ease and stimulating conversation. Look for two fellas in white Reed t-shirts; follow the sound of laughter.
