"Wild Beauty" at the Portland Art Museum
Saturday, November 15, 2 p.m.

Please join us for a gallery tour and discussion of the Portland Art Museum exhibition, "Wild Beauty: Photographs of the Columbia River Gorge, 1867-1957." We'll explore the history of landscape photography in our magnificent Columbia River Gorge, starting with the mammoth prints taken by Carleton Watkins in 1867. We'll also view the Gorge through the lenses of Benjamin Gifford, Sarah Ladd, Lily White, Alfred Monner, and Ray Atkeson. We'll end with the last photographs of Celilo Falls and the closing of the floodgates at the Dalles Dam. The book that drove the exhibition is a collaboration between book designer and editor, John Laursen ’67, and his longtime friend, Terry Toedtemeier, curator of photography at the Portland Art Museum (PAM).

Meet in the main lobby at 2 p.m.
$10 per person (age 17 and under, and PAM members are free)
RSVP to Nancy Johannsen Morrice ‘76 at NLMorrice@aol.com or 503/691-1443

Feeding Frenzy for students
Sunday, December 14, 7-9 p.m.

On the Sunday night before exam week, the chapter hosts a "Feeding Frenzy" for students. Generous alumni bring main dishes, desserts, drink, soup, and breads to serve. We set up a small grill and serving table near the Educational Technology Center (ETC), close to the library, and the science buildings. Exam-crazed students come by to chat, munch, and mingle. All food and non-alcoholic beverages, including veg and non-veg, home cooked or store-bought, are most welcome! Please contact Ron Sato '68 at satori@alumni.reed.edu to sign up.

Thirsty Third Thursday

Meet other alumni, sample a few brews, and enjoy lively conversation on the third Thursday of every month starting at 6 p.m. On September 18 we'll be at The Green Dragon Bistro & Brew Pub, 928 SE 9th Ave, Portland. RSVP to Kevin Morrice '76   or Nancy Johannsen Morrice '76 at NLMorrice@aol.com or 503/691-1443.

Look for the pink table-top sign and the stuffed griffin at a pub/bar/restaurant near you.

Foster-Scholz Club

Members of the Foster-Scholz Club attended Reed 40 or more years ago (currently the classes of 1968 and earlier). Club members and their guests in the Portland-area are invited to attend a variety of events throughout the year. A special welcome and invitation goes out to the class of 1969 joining the Foster-Scholz Club this year.

Listserve

The Portland chapter has recently set up an email listserve to arrange get-togethers with fellow Reedies on short notice. If you want to invite Reedies to join you for a concert, movie, drink, dinner or a hike, please send an email to the list. This is an opt-in list, which means the only people who will see the announcements will be people who have subscribed to the web page. There is an option to get the messages combined in one message daily or weekly; please subscribe at https://www.lists.reed.edu/mailman/listinfo/alumni-pdx-network

If you have an idea for an event please contact the chapter. We'd love to hear your ideas.
