Workshop Schedule

seminar imageThe workshops are designed to assist writers by exploring the art and craft of writing in a community of fellow Reedies. The program combines morning workshops with afternoon craft lectures. Evenings are reserved for participant readings and storytelling. There are separate morning workshops for fiction, poetry, dramatic writing, and memoir. Participants will be asked to specify attending one workshop for the entire Alumni College.

Morning Workshops

Workshops meet for three sessions, Wednesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. - noon. Each workshop will consist of roughly 12 students. In each session, the group discusses three to four participant manuscripts. Participants are asked to provide one copy of the manuscript they would like to have reviewed in the workshop by no later than April 16 (see manuscript submission requirements).

Afternoon Lectures

Faculty members will hold two lectures each afternoon about the writer’s craft. In addition, a panel of former professors of creative writing at Reed will discuss the challenges of improving one’s craft over time.

Reed Authors Reception

A reception for published Reed authors will be held at the bookstore. Participants with published books will be invited to display their work. If you would like to display your books at the reception, please contact Jim Shugrue, trade book buyer, at jim.shugrue@reed.edu or call 503/788-6659.

Reed Literary Reunion

Alumni College will culminate on the fourth day with a special Reed Literary Reunion as part of Reunions 2007, featuring scheduled talks and readings by prominent Reed alumni, and a special exhibit called Literary Reed: 100 years of Creative Writing. Open mic readings will be held each evening, so please bring your work to share. Alumni College participants will also be invited to participate in regular class reunion festivities that weekend.
