Society & Technology
Society and Technology: The More Things Change, the More Things Change?
Modern society both drives and is driven by technology. While to some
extent this has always been true (could culture exist without technology?),
the accelerated pace of recent technological development and the immediacy
of its consequences have made the topic one of interest and importance.
Summer Alumni College’s theme of “How Does Society Manage Technology?” will
build upon ideas that sprang from discussions of Winter Alumni College’s
question of “How Does Technology Change Society?” We will examine the cultural,
economic, and legal forces that can be harnessed to manage technology
in order to reap its benefits while minimizing or averting its harms.
You don’t
need to have attended the winter session to enjoy the summer session—sign
up today!
