Oregon Business Plan Leadership Summit
Oregon Business Plan Leadership Summit
Thursday, December 11, 2008
Oregon Convention Center, Oregon Ballroom
777 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Portland, Oregon 97232
7 AM - 11 AM for volunteer opportunities
For seven years, Oregon's business, elected, and community leaders have gathered annually at the Oregon Convention Center to make plans for reaching the Oregon Business Plan goal of quality jobs for all Oregonians. Now, for Reedies, see below for a great opportunity to gain free admission (there's a $50 entry for students) to the annual Oregon Business Plan Leadership Summit, which brings together key policy makers, elected officials, and business leaders. If you volunteer to help with the event, admission is complimentary.
Tom Nelson, career coach in career services, will be attending. Please let him know if you have contacted Jeremy Rogers (see below). Tom will be glad to introduce you to people at the event, and assist you in networking.
-----------------------
Volunteers are "compensated" with complimentary admittance to the summit, breakout sessions and reception once their assignments are
completed.
Last year's Reedies worked registration/sign-in on the day of the event. This required a 7:00 am reporting time at the Convention Center to be
shown the ropes before attendees start arriving. There may be additional opportunities to volunteer in the days leading up to the summit.
Our students last year welcomed attendees, gave out packets/name badges etc...until about 11 a.m. after which they were free to participate in
all aspects of the gathering. I connected with a couple of them, introduced them to a few government, business, community leaders of my
own acquaintance and coached them a little on doing some networking. They participated in summit proceedings, which include major policy
discussions, presentations by the governor, U.S. senators and representatives, local state/counties/cities elected officials and business leaders working on various policy initiatives that will shape the economy of our state and region for years to come.
In addition to the plenary sessions, breakout/roundtable discussion sessions this year will include initiatives on: economic innovation, public finance, energy, land-use, water resources, education and health care.
In addition to the substance of the summit, this is a rare opportunity for students to see true leadership in action as demonstrated by the most influential community, government (elected and non-elected), business, education, and non-profit leaders in our state.
Students interested in volunteering can contact Corinn Escobar at 503-546-6448.
