Join alumnus Michael Perlstein '84 for a closer look at careers in journalism and the aftermath of Katrina.

After graduating with a Math major, Michael Perlstein went on to get a Master's in Journalism from Northwestern University.  He spent 20 years as a writer for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and was on the team that was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes for Katrina coverage.  He continued to report on a year of the city's recovery before making the jump to academia.  He now teaches journalism and writing at Loyola University in New Orleans, and freelances for newspapers and magazines.  Mr. Perlstein also wrote an article called "Covering Katrina--  On Taking it Personally," featured in the Winter 2006 Reed Magazine.
