Description

The Instructional Technologist collaborates with faculty and students to support the effective use of new and current technologies in teaching.

The Instructional Technologist maintains frequent and close communications with faculty and students to facilitate the selection, creation, and use of technologies that support teaching and learning. She or he consults with faculty to understand their needs and to assess the outcomes of using specific technologies to support learning . He or she works closely with other CIS staff in the customization and testing of instructional tools and plays a major role in providing documentation and training for these tools.

Duties

  • Identify and work closely with faculty in all departments who are interested in incorporating technology in their teaching.
  • Maintain high awareness of the latest instructional technologies by developing key contacts at professional organizations and other schools, staying abreast of current literature, and learning and evaluating new technologies.
  • Disseminate information about instructional technologies to faculty. Make recommendations and serve as a technical resource for other staff who support faculty.
  • Promote and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience between faculty within and beyond Reed.
  • Provide hands-on tutoring & training workshops for faculty and staff.
  • Develop and maintain documentation in support of instructional technologies.
  • Supervise student assistants as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong service orientation.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to proactively identify opportunities for improvement and implement action plans.
  • Broad, up-to-date, technical knowledge and experience with academic technologies and applications including Macintosh and Windows platforms.
  • Ability and desire to keep skills and knowledge current in a rapidly changing field.
  • Related professional experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of computing in a liberal arts environment is preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree is preferred.
