Working with Views
When browsing a Portfolio catalog, you can change and customize the way
you view records. Portfolio has three main view arrangements, which you
can access with a single click via buttons at the top of any gallery window.
These are Thumbnail View, List View, and Record View. The buttons on the
toolbar that switch between views look like this:
Thumbnail View displays thumbnails for each record in a grid pattern.
Beneath each thumbnail, field data for each record can be displayed (filename,
record title, etc.). In this view, users easily browse catalogs visually,
sorting through records by their thumbnails. To switch to Thumbnail View,
click the Thumbnail View button.
List View lists records by filename (and/or other field data that
users with higher-level access can change). Beneath the list of records,
users can view the thumbnail and select field data for any record selected
from the list. This view allows users to browse and sort a catalog by
field data. By clicking on one of the field names just above the list
of records, you can sort a catalog or gallery by the data in that field.
To switch to List View, click the List View button.
Record View displays records one at a time (or in a vertical series)
alongside select field data, allowing users to see a great variety of
metadata for each record, and, if the catalog's administrators have so
decided, to edit this metadata with ease. To switch to Record View, click
the Record View button.
View customization is a more advanced feature that allows users to change
particulars such as font and font appearance, background color or image, displayed
fields, thumbnail sizes, and so forth, within each view arrangment. To learn more
about how to do this, see the Customizing Views
tutorial in the Advanced Help section.
