  • Getting the HP LaserJet 4200n Drivers
  • Printing to any Networked Printer

Note: Setting up a printer is the same for both black-and-white and color printers. After you have setup a color printer, however, you must Print via the WebQueue.

To print to a networked printer, you must set up your computer to print to a particular printer, and you must connect to the appropriate group of printers using your network username and password.

You can set up your computer to print to as many printers as you want. Simply follow these instructions for each printer. You only need to set up each printer once.

You will need to connect to the appropriate group of printers each time you restart your computer and want to print.

    Setting up a printer

  • Before you set up your printers, you will need to download and install the correct Samba patch to work with Reed's network. Please refer to the Windows 2000 set up page for information on obtaining and installing the registry patch, as well as other help with getting a Windows 2000 computer on Reed's network.

    1. Connect to the appropriate group of printers. If you are not sure of how to do this, make sure you have read and understand Setting up Windows 2000.
    2. Here is a quick rundown of printers:

      • The IRC printers are located in \\class_lab_print. They are HP LaserJet 4200 Series printers.
      • The Library printers, such as Duplex West, are located in \\library_print. They are HP LaserJet 4050 and HP LaserJet 4100 Series printers.
      • The two color printers, irc_color and library_color, are HP LaserJet 4600 Series printers.
      • The dorm printers are located in \\dorm_print. They are either HP LaserJet 4100 Series or Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS printers, depending on the dorm. If you are not sure of the model, contact your dorm t-watcher.
    3. When prompted enter your Reed network username and password.
    4. Double-click on the specific printer you want to print to.
    5. Click Yes to continue.
    6. Click OK to select the proper driver and set up the printer.
    7. When the Add Printer Wizard opens, select the printer’s manufacturer and under Printers, select the exact model, then click OK.
Note: Our new printers are so new, it is likely that HP LaserJet 4200 Series will not be on the list. If this is the case, you must get the drivers from HP.

You are ready to print. To print, connect to the appropriate group of printers using your network username and password, then print from your application.
