Installing Endnote X2 on Mac OS X

EndNote X2 is compatibile with Mac OS Tiger (10.4) and Leopard (10.5). If you need to run Endnote on Panther (10.3.9 only), download Endnote X1 instead.
The "Cite While You Write" feature in Endnote X2 works with Microsoft Word 2004 and 2008.

  1. Download EndNote to your computer.
  2. Double-click on the EndnoteX2.dmg file to mount it.
  3. In the mounted disk image, drag the Endnote X2 folder to your Applications folder.
  4. Go to Applications > EndNote X2 and double-click on the Endnote X2 icon.
  5. Follow the instructions to complete installation.
  6. When finished, you're prompted to create a new Endnote library, open an existing library, or see what's new in Endnote.

Installing Endnote X2 on Windows

Note: Endnote X2 runs on Windows XP and Vista. Cite While You Write works with Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007. If you need to use Endnote with earlier versions of Windows and Word, download Endnote X1 instead.

  1. Download EndNote to your computer.
  2. Extract the contents of EndnoteX2.zip to your Desktop (right-click and select Extract all). Note: If you don't extract the contents, the installer will not work properly.
  3. Double-click ENX2Inst.msi from the extracted EndnoteX2 folder on your Desktop.
  4. Click Next to accept all default options.
  5. When installation is complete click Finish (or Run if you want to start Endnote).

Adding Reed's preferred Connections and Filters files

Endnote's connection and filter files allow you to remotely search databases and import references directly into your library. We have provided a list of commonly used connections and filters at Reed. To install them, follow the directions below.

Note: These connection and filter files are built into the Mac installer. Windows users will need to follow our directions below to manually install them.

  1. Quit out of Endnote.
  2. Download this zip file.
  3. Open the zip file, which will extract two sub-folders called Connections and Filters within a folder called Endnote Files.
  4. On Macs, copy the Connections and Filters folders to /Applications/Endnote X2/ and replace the existing folders when prompted to do so.
  5. On Windows, go to C:\Program Files\Endnote X2\ and delete the existing folders called Connections and Filters. After deleting them, copy the new Connections and Filters folders in their place.

Now follow our instructions for searching these databases remotely.
