Computing Policy Committee Meeting
January 16, 2009
4:00 – 5:00 pm, ETC 309

Present: Chris Deiss, Jim Fix, Vickie Hanawalt, Christine Morita-McVey, Kathryn Oleson, Marty Ringle, Robert Slifkin, Sonia Sabnis, Peter Steinberger

Absent: Alex Botero-Lowery, Lily Copenagle, Michael Gottesman, Ed McFarlane, Darrin Pufall, Jon Rivenburg, Kjersten Whittington

Jim Fix called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm.

1.    The minutes of the 12/12/08 CPC meeting were approved.
2.    Marty Ringle began the discussion of the 5 year Technology Planning Process by noting that Lily Copenagle, Ed McFarlane and Jon Rivenburg and the two student committee members were unable to attend. The committee asked that Christine Morita-McVey seek feedback from student members Alex Botero-Lowery and Michael Gottesman and from the absent staff and faculty members

Marty then described the strategic planning process with regard to students.  CIS is planning on having a group of approximately 12 students meet with Ethan Benatan and Gary Schlickeiser. Ethan and Gary will solicit feedback from this initial group then pursue data collection from students online and in at least two additional group meetings.

Marty explained that CIS and the CPC are reviewing the list of questions for faculty, staff and students and that from February to June, CIS staff will have the meetings with students and will have interviews with faculty and staff to collect data.  In July and August, CIS staff will distill common themes from these groups.  In September, these themes will be presented to the CPC for discussion.  The resulting list will be sent to the senior staff of the college as well as to other committees, such as CAPP and CBAS, and, finally, to Reed’s Board of Trustees.  CIS will pursue the resulting goals in the 2010 – 2015 period.

Marty then asked faculty members for comments or feedback on the faculty portion of the questions.
