Support for Third Party Printers and Peripherals

A wide variety of printers and other peripherals (zip drives, scanners, mice, keyboards, etc.) cost less than $500 and may therefore be purchased with departmental funds. CIS will facilitate such departmental purchases by helping to identify appropriate products and placing orders. The Reed Computer Shop cannot repair most third-party peripherals.

If the product was purchased through the computer shop from a recommended vendor, we will facilitate hardware repairs by performing preliminary diagnosis and contacting the vendor to investigate service options. The Computer Shop may cover the cost of repairs if the peripheral was a recommended brand and model and if is cost-effective to repair. However, for many inexpensive peripherals it is not cost-effective to repair the item and the computer shop may determine that the peripheral should be replaced. In these cases, the replacement cost will be covered from the users departmental budget.
