The Purpose of the FML
In 1997, a Culpeper grant established the FML and the position of the instructional technologist who directs it . The lab was originally created to help Reed faculty use new computer technologies in their teaching and research.
Today, the lab still serves as a resource for faculty exploring new technologies in teaching and research. However, its mission has expanded to include workshops and seminars, web development, video production and inter-faculty, cross-curriculum development. The FML continues to provide faculty with a place to experiment, develop and research new ways to teach.
At its heart, the FML exists today to help make pedagogy at Reed exciting, rich and innovative while maintaining Reed's focus on rigorous, exacting scholarship.
