Reed College
Technology Advisory
Council Seminar
Friday, November 19,
1994
3:30-5:30 pm
Vollum Lounge
Format: The seminar will be facilitated by Barbara Isgur. Three
Council members (Jerry Kline, Diane Brundage, Fred Crary) will
take 7-10 minutes to make presentations designed to stimulate discussion
among other Council members and the Reed guests.
Objective: Educate key representatives of the College about the
industry perspective on enhancing the educational experience with
technology and managing the associated costs.
Questions to be addressed:
1. Information technology is a very large universe. Colleges and
universities must be selective about the areas that they target
for technology infusion. From the perspective of your company and
of the industry, where can the application of technology have the
greatest impact on teaching and learning?
2. The current rate of technology evolution is staggering. How
does your company, as an organization, deal with the pace of technology
change? Does a college, which is traditionally slow to change,
have anything to learn from these examples? What specific technological
changes, relevant to higher education, do you anticipate ?
3. How do colleges, where income-earning capacity is restricted,
afford what we are assuming will be the ongoing costs of equipment
(procurement, replacement, and maintainance) and associated support
services?
4. Can technology help a college to cut costs?
