IMAGING
TECHNOLOGY
Vollum
Lounge
Friday
(9/21) 1:45 - 3:45pm
The purpose
of this session is to discuss the ways in which new imaging technologies
can be used to enhance instruction, research, and administrative
activities at Reed. We will begin by having faculty from two
diverse areas of the curriculum -- art and biology -- talk briefly
about their goals in bringing digital imaging into their teaching.
We will then consider some of the ways that imaging can be used
to enhance record archiving and other administrative operations.
TAC members are encouraged to suggest imaging technologies and
application areas (both academic and administrative) that will
help Reed formulate a coherent strategy for acquiring, applying,
and supporting imaging technology. This results of the discussion
will be passed along to the "Image Technology Task Force" composed
of faculty, students, and staff, who are meeting later this fall
to begin development of a college strategy for imaging technology.
Faculty
attending this session include: Art- Ethan Jackson, Charles Rhyne;
Bio - Peter Russell, Maryann McClellan, and Keith Karoly.
COMPUTER
LITERACY
Gray
Campus Center - C&D
Saturday
(9/22) 9:00 - noon
The purpose
of this session is to consider the question: What technology
skills should Reed students possess by the time they graduate?
We will begin the discussion by asking faculty to speculate on
the definition of "computer literacy" as it should
be applied to a liberal educations in arts and sciences. We will
then ask TAC members, Reed alumni, and Reed students to comment
on these observations in an effort to reach a consensus on a "basic
skill set" and how it should be achieved. At 10:30 we will
take a break. At 11:00am we will be joined by the acting president,
Peter Steinberger, to present the observations of the group and
discuss how they do or don't fit into the curricular priorities
of the college.
Faculty
attending this session include: Joe Buhler, Ann Delehanty, Arthur Glasfeld,
Noelwah Netusil, Robert Knapp, and Ellen Stauder
