Student Telephone Instructions
Local Service
To get started:
- Connect your phone to the jack with the phone icon and your campus extension.
- Your direct dial number from off campus is 503-517-xxxx (your four-digit extension).
To make campus calls and local calls:
- Dial the four-digit campus extension.
- Dial 9 + the ten-digit telephone number. Calls within the Portland metro area are free.
Voice Mail Service
To get started:
- Dial 5580 from your phone.
- The password is 1234.
- Follow the instructions to set up your voicemail.
- Press 1 for yes, 2 or no.
- Be sure to go through the entire script or you will have to do it again.
To activate your voice mail:
- Dial star (*) 5 5580 and listen for a solid tone to forward "no answer" calls to voicemail.
- Dial (*) 6 5580 to forward "busy calls to voicemail.
- Calls made while you are on the phone or not answered after 4 rings will now go to voice mail.
- To deactivate the voice mail transfer: dial tone **5, and dial tone **6.
To forward ALL CALLS to your voice mailbox (i.e. on vacation):
- Dial star (*) 3 5580, and listen for a solid tone.
- Be careful using *3, because all calls will be sent to your voice mailbox!
- Dial **3 to deactivate forwarding all calls to voice mail.
To access your voice mail box from off-campus:
- Dial (503) 517-5580,
- Enter 9 plus your 4-digit extension, then your password, then follow the prompts.
Dialing Long Distance
A Calling card is needed to place long distance calls in the residence halls. Calling cards are abailable in the Bookstore or you may bring one with you. Costco prepaid calling cards are rechargeable, don't have a connection fee, and are among the least expensive for calls placed to North American cities and most countries. Prices for international calls vary widely so students expecting to make international calls should shop for the best price.
