Animal Control
(Reed's dog policies)
The Reed College dog policy parallels that of the ordinance of Multnomah County Animal Control. All members of the Reed College community are bound by the honor principle to be responsible for the appropriate conduct of their dog while on the Reed campus.
- Dogs must be on a leash and accompanied by a person at all times when on campus.
- Unattended dogs are in violation and are subject to sanctions.
- Areas off limits to dogs at all times include:
- The commons (areas where food is served)
- The library and the IRCs
- Any classroom where the professor bans dogs
- The sports center
- Dogs in heat are not permitted on campus.
- All dogs must be vaccinated as required by county ordnance.
- All dogs must display a current valid county license.
- Dogs may not threaten or attack members of the community or other animals.
Any dog that attacks or threatens a person while on campus may be banned from campus indefinitely or for a certain period of time. Any dog that bites anyone will be permanently banned without recourse to appeal.
- Dogs may not damage any property of the college.
- Dogs may not disrupt any campus function.
- All dogs on campus must be registered with community safety. There is no fee for this service.
The current dog policy was passed by the student senate and faculty during fall semester 1998, amended April 2000, and may be obtained from the community safety office.
