Evacuations will occur when an alarm sounds or upon notification by the community safety office.
- Be aware of the evacuation plan posted in your building. When the alarm sounds or you are otherwise directed to evacuate, leave by the nearest exit.
- The last person out of the room must shut the door. In case of a fire, this greatly limits the spread of smoke and fire.
- Do not use elevators in case of earthquake or fire.
- Help handicapped people exit the building.
- Once outside, move at least 300 feet from the building. Assemble at your department or office's predetermined evacuation meeting site, if possible. Your department or office's emergency coordinator will do a head count to determine if everyone is out of the building.
- Avoid blocking sidewalks, hydrants, streets, and fire lanes. Emergency vehicles must have clear access.
- Do not reenter the building unless told to do so by a community safety officer.
