Fire Involving Hazardous Materials
- Follow the evacuation procedures as for any fire emergency.
- As soon as possible call community safety dispatch (extension 7533) with the following information:
- What is the exact location of the fire?
- What hazardous materials are involved?
- How much hazardous material is involved?
- How close is the fire to other hazardous materials?
- The community safety office will call the appropriate emergency response personnel or agencies.
Major Spills Involving Hazardous Materials
- Follow evacuation procedures.
- As soon as possible call community safety dispatch (extension 7533) with the following information:
- What is the exact location of the spill?
- What hazardous materials are involved?
- How much hazardous material is involved?
- How close is the spill to other hazardous materials?
- The community safety office will call the appropriate emergency response personnel or agencies.
- Anyone who may be contaminated with the hazardous material should avoid contact with others as much as possible. Let the community safety office know your name and location, and if you need medical care. Dispatch will call and inform medical emergency responders and decontamination personnel. If you must leave the immediate area to begin decontamination, make sure the community safety office knows where you are.
Minor Spills Involving Hazardous Materials
- Alert community safety dispatch (extension 7533) or the environmental health and safety office (extension 7788).
- Give the following information:
- What is the exact location of the spill?
- What hazardous materials are involved?
- How much hazardous material is involved?
- How close is the spill to other hazardous materials?
- Leave the immediate area and keep others from entering until cleanup is complete.
