This is the unedited original master recording of Allen Ginsberg’s poetry reading at Reed College in February 1956. The audio file includes the following:
- Ginsberg’s reading of seven poems prior to reading “Howl”;
- Ginsberg’s prefatory remarks before reading “Howl”;
- A gap (silence) near the end of Ginsberg’s reading of Part I, which is followed by his repetition of several previously-read lines as he moves to the conclusion of Part I;
- Several stanzas of Part II, followed by Ginsberg’s conclusory remarks after discontinuing his reading several stanzas into Part II.
