Parent odyssey
Wednesday, August 27 & Thursday, August 28

We encourage all parents to attend Orientation with their student. Wednesday and Thursday are designed for you to learn about Reed and to help your student settle in. There are many activities designed just for you. Check out the parent odyssey events on the schedule page.

Register today for parent odyssey!

Register online and check off one thing on your list. Orientation is for both students and parents, and we ask that all parents attending Orientation register online for parent orientation by August 1. Pre-registering will speed you through check-in, giving you more time to spend with your student on campus. If you need alternative means to register, or have other questions, please contact alumni & parent relations at parents@reed.edu or 503/777-7589.

Hum 110 for Parents—Explore the Odyssey

Attend the kind of humanities conference that your student will experience throughout the year. Pancho Savery, professor of English and humanities, will speak on Homer’s Odyssey as part of the convocation ceremony, Wednesday, August 28. On Thursday morning, pre-registered parents will gather in small groups with professors to discuss the reading material and lecture. View more information and register.

When you arrive at Reed . . .

Parents, remember that you and your student need to check in separately in Kaul Auditorium beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27. View a map of campus (pdf).

Check out the Pacific Northwest

Arriving early to drop off your student for the SEEDS or outdoor odysseys? See what the Pacific Northwest has to offer: from the mountains to the desert to the coast, and everything in between (including shopping without sales tax in Oregon). Go to the Portland Oregon Visitors Association for places to explore. Need more suggestions? Stop by alumni & parent relations in Greywood, or at the parent lounge in Kaul Auditorium, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Parents and families dropping off students on Friday, August 22, are encouraged to attend a reception at 4 p.m. in GCC, B-D, where they can meet student services staff and take a break from moving. It may be especially helpful for parents who are not able to stay in Portland for the parent odyssey.

Come back for Parent & Family Weekend on November 7 & 8

Experience a day in the life of your daughter or son by attending classes, and get a glimpse of the small details common to the Reed experience, during Parent & Family Weekend. Activities begin Friday, November 7, and conclude Saturday afternoon. Online registration will be available in October.

Help us keep in touch with you

Throughout the year, we will be sending you news and information via email and other print mailings. Contact alumni & parent relations, if your contact information changes (address, phone, and/or email) or if you'd like an additional person to receive parent communications, at parents@reed.edu or 503/777-7589.
