On-campus Housing
Information about pets
No cats or dogs are allowed in any of the dorms or language houses on-campus. The only exception to this rule is that some Reed apartments can have cats and dogs.
For Apartments only:
The apartment must not be listed as "pet free". Before one cat or one dog is brought into an apartment, the following steps must be completed (or information verified) by the end of fall break (for the fall semester), or by the end of the second week of classes in the spring semester (for the spring semester).

Understand pet complaint process
Meet with the Assistant Dean
of Residence Life
Schedule a meeting with the assistant dean of residence life to go through the pet policy and to determine the procedures.
Verify Number of Animals
Only one cat or one dog is permitted per apartment. It is the resident's decision to choose one cat or dog for the apartment.
Verify Animal Age
Because of the potential for the destruction of property from young pets (such as teething or clawing), the pet must be at least six months old. Written verification of approximate age by a veterinarian will be required when you move the pet into your residence.
Verify Vaccinations
The cat or dog must be vaccinated. Proof of vaccination will be required. The following vaccinations are mandatory:

Verify if Pet is Neutered or Spayed
The pet must be neutered or spayed. Verification is required.
Assume Pet Responsibility
One resident must take primary responsibility for the animal. This person will agree to see that the animal is fed, cleaned, and given appropriate medical care as needed. This person is also responsible for caring for the animal during vacations and after the end of the school year. Litter boxes for cats must be kept within the owner's individual room and be emptied in outdoor waste containers.
The college is in no way responsible for the care of the animal. The primary owner is liable for the costs associated with any damages caused by the pet.
Register Pet with Residence Life & Multnomah County
Register the cat or dog with the residence life office in 28 West. The cost for this is $50. Register the cat or dog with Multnomah County and provide proof of that registration to Reed. In addition, pets must be registered at Reed through the community safety office by the first day of classes or within one week of coming to campus. Upon registration, the animal will be issued a Reed identification tag that must be worn at all times.
Understand Pet Complaint Process
In keeping with the honor principle, any complaints should be directed to the individual pet owner first. Lack of a satisfactory response can lead to an honor issue, honor case, or j-board hearing. In the event of a perceived emergency, the residence life office may require that a pet be removed from campus. Should such an action be considered, the pet owner will be notified in writing and told the basis of that action. The owner may appeal the decision within five working days to the student judicial board. Any termination under this provision is effective immediately upon confirmation by the student judicial board or failure to request a review within five days, whichever occurs first.
