Kids for Kids
Kids for Kids was started in 2000 by Nancy Van Prooyen, a Reed alumna. She wanted to bring cultural crafts to the hospital to add a bit of variety to the sterility of hospital life. Working in conjunction with the Ronald McDonald House, Kids for Kids brings a variety of fun cultural projects to school-aged patients. Every 2 weeks on a Saturday afternoon, Reedies aid hospital patients in creating crafts that are researched and planned by other members in the volunteer group. Volunteer duties include time commitment, facilitating arts and crafts projects with children who may be staying at the Ronald McDonald House, and providing assistance in the daily operation of the House - possibly including clerical, light housekeeping, and guest service support. It's an exciting opportunity to serve the community through play. I can't think of a more enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
This program qualifies for the off-campus federal work study internship program.
