2011-present Reed Outing Club InternBorn in San Francisco, I grew up across the United States and in various places in Europe. I began skiing at an early age and developed a love for all things outdoors early on because of his parents. Both long-time Colorado residents, they instilled in me a passion for being in the mountains that has never since died. Discovering rock climbing in high school after a knee injury ended my future career as an olympic gold medal runner, I quickly fell into the open arms of the climbing community. I've competed on the youth circuit for a couple of years in New York and then took my passion outdoors, first finding my lifelong passion for climbing on the side of the Shawangunk mountains of New York. Since then I've spent almost every dime and vacation chasing cracks, boulders, and bolts from Oregon to Texas, Kentucky to New Hampshire, and all the way to Spain and back.
I've been a ROC intern since January 2011, working alongside Clarice Cutler, Drew White, and Will Symms. I am dedicated to bringing my passion for outdoor recreation to Reed and hope to instill a similar drive in others through Reed Outing Club programs.

I'm Clarice, a junior International and Comparative Policy Studies major
and have been one of ROC's student interns since September 2010. A
priority of mine since arriving at Reed has been to pursue a balanced
lifestyle. During the school year I study, work, signate a club and push
myself to go to Forest Park, the gorge, the coast and the mountains as
often as possible. Every summer I leave Portland to live in the
backcountry and work on a trail crew in my home state of Vermont. I
love long distance trail running, backpacking, and am nurturing a
nascent passion for climbing mountains and touring on my bicycle.

2011-present Gray Fund Outdoor Intern
Hi, I'm Lauren, assistant to the assistant director of physical education. I'm from Asheville, North Carolina, and grew up hiking, trail running, and fly fishing in the Appalachians. These days I'm a philosophy major, backpacker, lumberjack, and trout angler. During the school year I help organize and design Gray Fund's recreation trips, helping y'all discover the great Northwest.

Backpack Co-Op ManagerOriginally from Vermont, I'm a biology major and help manage the
Backpack Co-op, connecting students with the gear they need and helping
them plan trips. I'm passionate about natural history and bipedal travel
of all sorts, particularly backpacking and backcountry skiing. An avid
distance runner. I've recently begun racing in ultramarathons throughout
the mountains of the Northwest, and can be found training in Forest
Park or the Columbia River Gorge most mornings.

2011-present Backpack Co-Op ManagerMy name is Colin Rosemont. I was born and raised in Southern California
where I took to exploring the wonders of the Santa Monica Mountains to
their boundary at the Pacific. Skiing has been in my life since I was 3
years old, and save a brief adolescent jaunt into the world of
snowboarding, has been with me ever since. The past 10 winters (springs
and summers too) have been spent skiing at Mammoth Mountain in the
Eastern Sierra Nevadas. The Owens Valley has become a home away from
home as I've taken my love for backpacking, bouldering, and skiing from
Bishop to Yosemite. I am studying Anthropology here at Reed College and
am interested in the ways in which our relations with nature construct
political and economic ideologies; I hope to continue my studies after
Reed in work centered around cultural and biological diversity. The
Outdoor Program at Reed welcomed me with open arms during my freshman
year with an array of incredible PE classes and trips that took me from
the coast to Cascades. I am currently a manager in the Backpack Co-Op
with the expressed intent of equipping and promoting students to
interact with the endless beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The future
holds exciting new possibilities and a lifetime of adventures; I'm
grateful that Reed has provided such opportunities to explore. “I only
went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for
going out, I found, was really going in.”–John Muir
